After reading ‘City of Fallen Angels’ many ‘Mortal Instruments’ fans rushed to pre-order Cassandra Clare’s next book, ‘Clockwork Prince’ to see that it’s September release date has been pushed back. The second book in ‘The Infernal Devices’ series will be released in December 2011. Clare will post something on her blog soon in regards to the change.
As Clare discussed in her interview with me prior to the ‘City of Fallen Angels’ release, her current book release schedule is a very busy one. She is juggling both ‘The Mortal Instruments’ series and its prequel series, ‘The Infernal Devices.’ It was this fast publication schedule that lead to one of the reasons for the ‘City of Fallen Angels’ embargo, meaning that no advanced readers copies were released prior to release date. A lot goes into a book publication so it should come as no surprise that ‘Clockwork Prince’ has been moved back. There will be advance reader copies for this book, so reviews will be available prior to its release.
Both series, ‘The Mortal Instruments’ and ‘The Infernal Devices’ stand alone but when read in publication order fans can enjoy some overlap and entertaining links between the characters.
On Clare’s website fans can find a countdown to ‘Clockwork Prince’ as well as the link to pre-order the book. She recently tweeted the below teaser:
The cover for 'Clockwork Prince,' which Clare says will show the character Jem, will be revealed in May.

He reached up and unlocked Tessa's hands from around his neck. He drew her gloves off, and they joined her mask and the hairpins on the stone floor of the balcony. He pulled off his own mask next and cast it aside, running his hands through his sweat-dampened hair, pushing it back from his forehead. The lower edge of the mask had left marks across his high cheekbones, like light scars, but when she reached to touch them, he gently caught at her hands and pressed them down.
“No,” he said. “Let me touch you first."
